WESTERN HAN DYNASTY (206 B.C. – A.D. 9) The container is decorated with a blue beast, which represents the star Sirius, known in China as the Heavenly Wolf. Executed with brilliant pigments and confident black brush strokes from the workshop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Han Hu jar, one of the finest known examples of Han painting. The results of Oxford Authentication thermoluminescence test C118r20 are consistent with the suggested period of manufacture.
