A Grey Pottery Model of a Tea House
SICHUAN PROVINCE, EASTERN HAN DYNASTY (25 – 220 A.D.) Pottery models of houses and other structures were commonly included in Eastern Han burials to provide for the afterlife. This house has two-stories with a variety of figures throughout. On the first floor a servant attends to a group of guests playing a board game, while a dog stands guard near the front gate. The second floor entertainers include a dancer, with several musicians and acrobats. Oxford Authentication Thermolumiescence test no. C111n34 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
