Capernaum
FRANK WILLIAMS American (b. 1952) This painting is based on a photograph taken by my husband, Liam Zeng, at Fort Miles, a United States Army installation located on Cape Henlopen. I am not sure what this bunker was used for during the war. Capernaum was an ancient fishing village on the Sea of Galilee where St. Peter lived. According to the Synoptic Gospels, Jesus selected this town as the center of his public ministry in Galilee. He also formally cursed Capernaum, along with Bethsaida and Chorazin, saying “you will be thrown down to Hades!” (Matthew 11:23) because of their lack of faith in him as the Messiah. It can also mean “chaos.” Egg tempera on gesso panel, 2019 29.875 x 22.125 in. (75.88 x 56.2 cm.) SOLD Giclée prints of this painting are available upon request.
