An Archaic Ritual Bronze Fanglei Vessel
WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY This bronze fanglei vessel was used to hold offerings of wine during religious ceremonies. Each side has a broad band of taotie divided by flanges against a leiwen ground below a band of alternating kui dragons, the shoulder cast with striding kui dragons on a leiwen ground centered on a high relief bovine masks and loop handles issuing from similar masks, the straight neck with further pairs of confronting dragons divided by flanges.
